Mumps epidemic thanks to air travel?

Saturday April 15, 2006
This would seem to be the case. It is not unusual to blame air travel for the spread of illnesses, what with being in a flying incubator in close proximity to other passengers. The unusual outbreak of mumps in Iowa is being attributed to several flights. It is the biggest outbreak of mumps in over 20 years.

Reuters has a description of the outbreak, and lists the flights where 2 travelers infected with the mumps unknowingly spread the illness.
The CDC has an incredible amount of information about what is being called a mumps epidemic in Iowa on their dedicated Mumps page and has the air travel/flight information as well.

Stay healthy on board your flight
