Manicure leads to flight diversion

Sunday May 7, 2006
The odor of something chemical led to the diversion of a United flight traveling from Chicago to San Diego. The captain decided to make an emergency landing in Denver based on the possibility that the odor could be some sort of leak of a noxious, or chemical substance.

The flight was scoured for leaks - none found. Later, it was discovered that a passenger doing her nails on board was the source of the odor.

The Chicago Sun-Times polishes all the details of a flight that took an unexpected course.
