The Safety of Airlines - Find Out if it is Safe to Fly

Tuesday July 10, 2007
fra The European Union has added more airlines to its blacklist. Essentially, airlines on this list are not permitted to fly in or out of any EU countries. Because Angola's flagship carrier, and all airlines from Indonesia were recently banned (I have traveled on a few of the airlines from that country), I thought I would revisit the list. And looking at the blacklist, African countries seem to have the lion's share of airlines that are not allowed to fly to Europe.

Before you fly on an airline that you may not be familiar with it doesn't hurt to check the EU blacklist. These airlines were banned because the EU deemed them unsafe for passengers, which has to be at least of some consideration before you fly. You can check the European Union's Airline Blacklist to check which airlines made this list.

About.com's Guide to Africa for Visitors asks the question of whether African airlines are safe, and goes in depth to find a solid answer.
