A Trip to Antarctica

Monday November 12, 2007
AntarcticaDid you even think you could visit Antarctica? Until a few years ago, I really thought that travel to Antarctica was restricted to scientists and sponsored explorers / adventurers. But I was wrong. From November to March, during the Southern Hemisphere's summer, there are flights to the continent of snow and ice. I suppose some would see it as witnessing climate change up close. Or, learning what really cold weather is truly like.

Prices for flights, overnights, and expeditions range from just under $1000 to nearly $60,000 - obviously the experience varies according to the dollar amount. You can take a New Years sightseeing flight over Antarctica; a day or overnight trip where you land on one of the Antarctic islands with a little time to explore; or you can go whole hog and participate in an ice marathon or a nearly 2 month expedition.

Air travel to the Antarctic has to be one of the most unique travel options available - for a price.
