Saturday March 29, 2008
Recently, there just hasn't been a whole lot of good news for airlines and their economic status. Financially, the rising cost of fuel is reflecting itself in the form of increased fuel surcharges, and shakier profit prospects.
Coupled with the fuel price surge, is what seems to be a weakening US economy, and it is hard not to think that things might not be on an upswing for the airlines in the near future.
So it may not be surprising, considering these factors, that S&P is reviewing its US airline rating outlooks. CNN Money reports - High fuel prices, weak economy prompt review of US airline rating outlooks.
Another gloomy story that lines up with airline victims of fuel costs is Aloha Airlines - they have filed for bankruptcy. And this time, it seems like a more permanent form - the Associated Press reports Aloha Airlines Says It's for Sale
All fueled up with Higher Airfares
