Airlines Dropping Like Flies and a Quick Demise

Saturday April 12, 2008
You may wonder if it is only US airlines that are suffering the crunch of high fuel prices and a lacklustre economy. In fact, airlines are being affected on a global scale. For a larger airline, a $1 increase on a barrel of crude oil equals millions of dollars in extra operating experience. For smaller airlines, and budget or low cost ones, who are already operating on a slim profit margin, $1 can be fatal.

Recent days saw the sinking of ATA, Aloha and Skybus. The list now grows internationally - Oasis Hong Kong Airlines is the latest airline to meet a very sudden demise, citing what now is becoming all too familiar - the cost of fuel among other factors.

Oasis Hong Kong Airlines had been offering really great airfares from the UK and Canada to Hong Kong. Not anymore.
