Silverjet's Wings Get Clipped

Sunday June 1, 2008
If it were any other year, the story of an airline ceasing operations might be big news. But 2008 has been an extraordinary year for airline bankruptcies and demises.

The latest casualty that has cited fuel costs as a major factor for closing up shop is Silverjet. Silverjet was an all business class airline serving the New York - London market. It was also one of the first airlines to include carbon offsets in the cost of tickets.

May 30, 2008 marked the ceasing of operations for Silverjet. Officials at the airline are still seeking investment to see if they can't get the airline off the ground again.

For a bit of background on this now defunct airline, you can take a look at a profile I did on Silverjet when it was still in operation.
