Jet Lag - Strategies to Feel Better and Adjust After Flights

Saturday June 14, 2008
I have succumb to jet lag on countless occasions, but it doesn't mean that I don't keep searching for ways to minimize its effects.

When I travel through several different time zones I am usually absolutely useless at sleeping on flights. I've used medications, tried homeopathic options and other tricks to combat jet lag. Nothing works 100% of the time for me. I try to relax, hence creating the self massage routine.

Ah, the not-so-wonderful experience of waking up several mornings at 3am after returning from a trip to Australia - of falling asleep and not knowing whether it was 6am or 6pm after long travels. Jet lag can manifest itself in different ways so I'm sharing as many solutions as possible. Hopefully, some of them will work for you.

I found a sure fire cure for jet lag quite by accident, when traveling from Washington, D.C. to Brussels. The friend I was visiting was a fitness freak, and upon picking me up at the airport, she headed straight to the gym. (Heaven forbid she miss one day’s workout.) “Come on”, she says, “It’ll be good for you!” Yeah right…, I thought. I could hardly even stand up. So I hopped on the Life Cycle, starting out VERY slowly, and after about 10 minutes, I started to feel more awake. Before I knew it, I had ridden for an hour! Afterward, I was able to go out and experience Brussels’ nightlife! Yes, EXERCISE really does cure jet lag! Believe it or not.
