One Week - Two Deadly Crashes

Saturday August 8, 2009

It's been a bit of a rough few months for air travel and commercial airline crashes. This past week brought two crashes, one a commercial flight, the other a mid-air collision - but both with numerous fatalities.

Earlier this week, Merpati Airlines Flight 9760 crashed just after 10am local time on August 2, 2009 in Indonesia. There were no known survivors among the 13 passengers and 3 crew members on board. The weather was reported to have been clear conditions.

The second accident this week occurred on August 8, 2009 at approximately 12 noon, local time, when a small aircraft clipped a helicopter from behind in a mid-air collision over the Hudson River. 9 people are presumed dead including 5 Italian tourists and pilot on a sightseeing tour in the helicopter, and 3 on board the plane.

Summary of Merpati Airlines 9760 has the details in brief of the crash in Indonesia.
