Amazing flight!

Friday November 11, 2005
I can make the claim of having traveled on one of the longest non-stop flights on a commercial airline - from Hong Kong to Toronto, which ran a cool 15 and a half hours of flying time (Singapore-NY is slightly longer). But now, a flight has the nearly unimaginable distinction of having been airborne for 23 hours. Simply amazing when you consider that flights burn through thousands of pounds of fuel every hour.

23 hours! Now I usually enjoy a flight for the first 8 hours or so, but I must admit that by hour 12 or so I was chomping at the bit. So this truly remarkable flight also began in Hong Kong, and I just hope that the seats were comfortable...what a way to spend an entire day - in the air. By the way, one of the pilots reported that they still had about two hours worth of fuel left upon landing.

The New York Times reports on this amazing feat...
