Earth and Air - Flying and Earth Day
Monday April 21, 2008
Tuesday, April 22 is Earth Day. Some parts of the world look to the vernal equinox in March as Earth Day as well. Regardless, Earth Day is a time to reflect on things to preserve the planet, and in terms of air travel, looking at ways to offset the pollution produced by thousands of flights every day.
The first of the air travel and environment articles is looking at carbon neutral flights. If you have heard the phrase, and aren't really sure of what it actually means then this article is especially good as a primer on carbon neutral flights and carbon offsets.
If you want to look at some of the carbon offset programs to neutralize the environmental impact of your flights then you can continue with Air Travel and the Environment - Climate Crisis, Climate Change and Carbon Taxes. This provides you a list of some of the many projects and programs devoted to improving the environment and giving you the option of purchasing your carbon offsets online.
Our About.com guide to the environment has the essentials on Earth Day, including ways you can live greener, and the history of the day devoted to our planet.
Also, I have created a category dedicated to earth-friendlier air travel - Greener Air Travel is a growing collection of articles and features dedicated to air travel and climate change. image from Nasa.gov
