If you want to buy a unique gift for those who enjoy travel, then gift certificates from an airline may prove to be a perfect present.
Here is a large sampling of what different airlines have to offer for those who are considering giving the gift of travel:
American Airlines - Purchase up to 15,000 miles as a gift of travel. You must be an AAdvantage member to purchase miles (if you aren't you can sign up at American Airlines main web site). Once purchased, points are non-refundable, non-transferable and no exchanges are permitted.
Air Canada - Air Canada's mileage program, Aeroplan, allows you to purchase travel miles as gifts for up to three people. In addition, Aeroplan gives you bonus miles when you purchase more than 5,000 miles. If you are a Canadian resident you are also entered for a chance to win 600,000 miles with every mileage purchase!
British Airways - Gift certificates purchased from British Airways are non-refundable, but are transferable! Gift certificates can be used for both British Airways and British Airways Holidays and start at $50. (for U.S. residents only)
British Airways - For U.K. residents, you can purchase gift travel vouchers in denominations starting at ten pounds sterling. Vouchers can be used towards travel on British Airways, or Oneworld carriers.
Delta Airlines - Delta's gift certificates must be purchased at one of their city ticket offices or at an airport ticket counter. Certificates cannot be redeemed online.
Frontier Airlines - Gift certificates start at $50 to a maximum of $500. They are sent to the purchaser and are left blank so that you can fill in the name of the recipient yourself. Although they cannot be redeemed online, Frontier Airlines's certificates can be brought into any travel agency as well as their own ticket offices.
America West Airlines - America West's gift certificates are issued in $25, $50 and $100 denominations and can be applied to travel on their flights, towards an America West Vacations package, or towards cargo cost. Although they can be ordered online, gift certificates with America West Airlines must be redeemed at one of their ticket or cargo office locations.
Southwest Airlines - Southwest's gift certificates are issued in $25, $50 and $100 denominations. They can be redeemed at most travel agencies and Southwest's ticket counters.
