Changing Tickets in the Path of a Hurricane

Hurricane season means that flight schedules can suddenly be altered because of severe weather conditions. With hurricane Isabel a number of airlines are gearing up for the bad weather by relaxing airline policy in anticipation of interrupted flight service. For hurricane Isabel, these are the policies of the airlines that fly to affected areas (please note that in all cases it is advisable to contact the airline directly for rebooking travel):

  • AirTran Airways Call their reservations department at 1-800-247-8726 as flight options may change based on how/where Isabel hits.
  • America West Passengers scheduled to travel through September 19, 2003 to/from Raleigh/Durham, Philadelphia, Baltimore, or Washington D.C. may rebook without change penalties. Rebooked travel must be completed by October 12, 2003.
  • American Airlines You may change your reservations without penalty, to travel as late as September 23rd. This policy is for passengers scheduled to travel between September 16-23; and for travel to/from Washington D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
  • ATA Airlines Change fees are waived if traveling to/from the following cities on September 18 or 19: Charlotte, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, or Washington D.C.. Rebooked travel must begin by September 30, 2003.
  • Continental Airlines No change fees if traveling to/from the following cities on/before September 24, 2003: Baltimore, Charlotte, Freeport (Bahamas), Greensboro, Myrtle Beach, Nassau (Bahamas), Newark, New York, Norfolk, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Providence, Raleigh/Durham, Richmond, Rochester, Washington D.C.. Rebooked travel must be completed by October 12, 2003.
  • Delta Airlines Passengers scheduled to travel September 16-21 for the following cities are allowed to rebook without change penalties: Allentown, Atlantic City, Baltimore, Charlottesville, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Harrisburg, Lynchburg, Myrtle Beach, Newark, Newport News, New York, Norfolk, Philadelphia, Raleigh/Durham, Richmond, Roanoke, Scranton, Washington D.C., White Plains, Wilmington. Rebooked travel must commence by September 30, 2003.
  • Frontier Airlines Passengers scheduled to travel to/from Washington D.C. between September 16-19 may rebook without change fees. Rebooked travel must be completed by October 16, 2003. The option of refunding your ticket is also available.
