Low Carbohydrate options during your flight

Low Carb diets have proven a newsworthy topic over the past several years. Low Carb has been called a fad, lifestyle, craze.

Regardless of such labels, American Airlines is responding to the popularity of the low carbohydrate diet, and is introducing low carb to the inflight experience. Low carbers can start finding flights where they can eat more than three bites of inflight food and not get a carb headache!

Want to know more? American Airlines has provided the details for your low carb dining experience inflight.

When and where will low carbohydrate meal options be offered?
May 1st 2004 - domestic first-class flights on American Airlines began offering breakfast options low in carbohydrates, and high in protein.

What will a low carb meal look like? With the low carb option, American Airlines is offering more omelets and less cereal for its first class breakfast service. American Airlines is not just looking at a low carb breakfast - if this service is successful, they will consider expanding high protein/low carbohydrate meal options during summer 2004. Unlike other special meals on American Airlines, low carb options cannot yet be pre-ordered.

Any other initiatives on low carbohydrate dining on board?
A few more of the low carb pickings that are coming to American Airlines:

  • 3 high protein gourmet sandwiches on transcontinental flights and more fruit and cheese (June 2004).
  • Low carbohydrate meals to be introduced in premium cabins on domestic flights (July 2004).
American Airlines continues to offer other special meal options that must be requested in advance. Diabetic meals are also often a fairly suitable inflight dining option for low carbers and can be ordered before you travel. With a diabetic meal, you may still have a roll on your plate, but it may serve as a good option until low carb service is available more extensively.
