Certainly time will bear out whether air travel will fully return to the levels that existed before September 11th, 2001. Given the statistics presented in the Travelocity poll, it would seem that people are returning to the travel patterns they followed before the tragic events of September 11th.
Call this the 'giving credit where credit is due'. If you are wondering how results of this survey were reached and how reliable these statistics are, here are the finer details:
The poll was conducted to determine attitudes toward travel since the events of September 11th, 2001.
The study was done from August 9 through August 11, 2002. A phone survey of a random sample of the U.S. population (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) was used in order to obtain the data for Travelocity's September 11th poll. TeleNation compiled the results of the poll.
Although 1,000 respondents were surveyed, only the responses of 870 respondents were used. The 870 that were included in the study reported at least one out-of-town trip in a year.
The margin of error is +/- 3% at the 95% confidence level.
