Travel on a Low-Cost Airline

The Easyjet Experience

By Arlene Fleming, About.com

Ahhhh, the low cost carrier. Getting to travel and save money. All low cost carriers are not created equal. Some mimic their more expensive counterparts - offering decent legroom, or generous baggage allowances. Some are even subsidiaries of their more expensive counterparts. Some offer advance seat selection, but a number of them do not.

Choosing your seat at the airport, in fact when you board the plane, is not unique to simply one low-cost carrier. And the scramble for seats -Ready, set, go - is one of the markers of the easyjet experience.

A clever ploy? Indeed, passengers arrive very early to get their boarding number. The lower the number, the earlier the boarding, and your chance to nab the seat you prefer. I usually show up early for my flights, but was unwise as to how early! On a recent flight from Athens to London Luton airport I learned that giving myself 2.5 hours advance check-in did not mean I would garner the coveted lower number range.
