No, this article is not a joke. There are airports around the world that have services and areas aimed to de-stress. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has several services aimed at relaxing and rejuvenating at the airport. There are day passes to lounges; pods you can nap in; and several spa locations.

An overview then, of what YVR has to offer:
  • Absolute Spa has several locations at the airport. The rates are reasonable particularly for massage, and they offer a wide range of treatments from manicures to facials to massage. They even have "flight delay" packages that offer a few treatments for under $100.

    Airport locations: Level 3, International Departures (Pre-security); Level 3, Domestic Departures (Post-security); Level 3, U.S. Departures (Post-security); Level 3, Fairmont Hotel, International Terminal (Pre-security); Level 1, Domestic Arrivals (Pre-security).
  • The Fairmont Hotel, located at Vancouver Airport, has both a spa and health and fitness facilities. You can purchase a day pass to their showering/sauna and gym areas. The fitness facilities at the Fairmont.
  • A screening lounge. Check out movie trailers and behind-the-scenes clips. The Alliance Atlantis Screening Lounge is located Level 3, Domestic Departures (Post-security).
  • If you are not a top tier member of a frequent flyer program, or are not traveling in business/first class, but still want use of a comfortable lounge then perhaps paying for a day pass at the Plaza Premium Lounge is for you. You can shower, use the internet, and have a snack. They have locations both in the domestic and international terminals.
  • Close to the U.S. Departures area there are sleep pods. You are given noise canceling earphones and pay less than $20 for a few hours of sleep-possibilities.
