The A380 Debuts with Singapore Airlines
- Proceeds Going to Charity

By , About.com Guide

Singapore Airlines is the first airline scheduled to fly the Airbus A380. This new class of super-sized aircraft is set to hit the skies sometime in October. With the A380, it is so large that only a few runways in the world are truly capable of handling it. The testing is complete, and now the first of the A380 line is just about set to jet.

Singapore Airlines is doing something pretty unique to launch this airplane. Potential first passengers will be able to bid in an online auction (Ebay) for a chance to fly on the A380's first scheduled flight. And, the proceeds from this first flight are being given to charity.

Winning bids on Ebay secures a seat on the inaugural flight. To commemorate the historic flight, passengers will receive a personalized certificate showing that they were part of the first commercial A380 flight.

Again, proceeds from the flight are going to charity. Singapore Airlines have secured Exxon Mobil as a sponsor to donate the fuel for the flight. Ebay is subsidizing the fees from the auction. PayPal is covering a portion of its fees as well.

If you are a potential bidder, you can sign up with Singapore Airlines to be updated on when both the auction and the flight will occur.
