One of the Air Travel site's visitors, Tran, was kind enough to submit more information about air travel in Vietnam. Here is what Tran wrote about Vietnam Airlines:
"At present, may airlines have exploited Vietnam transport market, among which Vietnam Airlines, the state-owned airline, holds a near-monopoly of domestic flights. Due to this fact, fares for domestic flights, are relatively expensive. The second airline handling domestic air travel in Vietnam is Pacific Airlines, which is owned by Vietnam Airlines but offers slightly cheaper flights.

Ticket prices for domestic flights are fixed according to distance. Though, there are discounts for advance purchase (with restrictions), late night flights, and student and senior fares.

Vietnam Airlines offers domestic flights to and from all Vietnam Airports, whereas Pacific Airlines handles certain domestic routes, including Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City-Danang, Ho Chi Minh City-Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City-Hue. These domestic flights are available everyday at various fixed time."
