In 1919 Aircraft Transport and Travel was formed. In 1924, four small airlines in the U.K. merged to form Imperial Airways, which along with several other smaller airlines, merged in 1935 to form British Airways.

Executive Club is the name of the frequent flyer program, and British Airways is a founding member of the global alliance Oneworld.
Major Crashes or Incidents:
In January 2007, a dead body was reportedly discovered in the landing gear of flight 282. The discovery was made by the pilot, who was doing his walkabout (safety checks).

British Airways deadliest crash occurred September 1976. British Airways 476 was enroute from London Heathrow to Istanbul and Inex-Adria Aviopromet 550, was flying from Split, Croatia to Cologne. The two planes crashed into each other in mid-air over Zagreb. 176 people on board both flights died.

Interesting Facts:
October 2006 - British Airways makes headlines over a cross. One of its flight attendants refused to either remove or cover up a necklace with a cross when working flights to Muslim countries. The said employee took an unpaid leave. The controversy has led questions on British Airways' policies towards religious garments.
