The title in the press release read, "BetaBlue Flies High With In-flight E-mail and Instant Messaging: JetBlue Airways Joins With LiveTV, Yahoo! and RIM to Become the First U.S. Domestic Carrier to Provide Free In-flight Connectivity". Free is certainly a nice word in innovation, and JetBlue is definitely offering a product on board that no other US carrier is right now - checking your e-mail during your flight.
December 11, 2007 - JetBlue Airways became the first US domestic carrier to provide complimentary inflight e-mail and instant messaging services. "BetaBlue," is the airline's first aircraft with an onboard wireless network. Customers using Wi-Fi laptops and smartphones can use in-flight versions of Yahoo! Mail and Messenger, while those with BlackBerry smartphones can access corporate and personal e-mail.
So if you don't have a Yahoo account, you can set one up for free and have your e-mails forwarded as required to enjoy the unique inflight experience. It's not available on all flights yet, but if you are traveling on the BetaBlue aircraft, get your laptop or Blackberry ready for inflight use.
"JetBlue continues to innovate when it comes to the customer experience, from being the first airline to offer every customer their own television with 36 channels of free entertainment, to today's introduction of free in-flight mail and messaging services," said Dave Barger, CEO of JetBlue Airways in a press release. "We are thrilled to be the first to offer in-flight connectivity to today's domestic flier, keeping our customers connected to work and loved ones in the air by providing unique, simple and FREE Wi-Fi services from Yahoo! and BlackBerry."
According to JetBlue, additional features are expected in the near future on BetaBlue.
JetBlue customers also enjoy Free Internet access is also available to JetBlue passengers in New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport, and its Long Beach, California location.
