Dimenhydrinate - Jet Lag Options

By Arlene Fleming, About.com

Dimenhydrinate is marketed under brand names Dramamine, Gravol and is often used as an anti-nauseant, and for motion sickness.

The government maintains information about every drug on the market, including dimenhydrinate.

I have used dimenhydrinate in the past because it could pretty much knock me out on a flight. It made me feel incredibly groggy and a bit on the dehydrated side, but it did help me sleep. I haven't used it now in years, and the last time I used it was on a cruise, but it is an option for trying to combat jet lag.

It's used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness, and is in a class of medications called antihistamines. Dimenhydrinate is said to work by preventing problems with body balance.

As with any medications, it is always good to talk to a medical professional such as a pharmacist to see if this type of medication is appropriate for you.
