Passport to Confusion
Just when one thought the passport rules were relaxed for the summer of 2007, it seems that an entirely new timeline has been created for U.S. citizens traveling outside of the United States on airlines. If you blink fast, the rules could be changed again.

Canadians Crossing Borders Without a Passport
U.S. officials are affirming that they will be more flexible with Canadian air travelers who don't have passports. This does not yet mean a waiver for air travelers without a passport, as there has yet to be a clear, official announcement, but it does mean that American officials will take the Canadian passport backlog into account.

No Passport, Can Travel
Still don't have your passport? Thousands of passports are in a backlog that was created when new passport regulations for North America came into effect in January 2007. There is some good news in what is proving to be lengthy wait times for travel documents - if you have applied for a passport, you can obtain proof of that and travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean without a passport this summer.
