Swine Flu - H1N1 Symptoms - What Are the Symptoms of Swine Flu?

By , About.com Guide

What are the symptoms of H1N1 / Swine flu? If you come down with this illness you can expect to show the following symptoms:

Almost always - sudden onset of cough and fever

Common symptoms include - Fatigue, muscle aches, sore throat, headache, decreased appetite, runny nose.

Other possible symptoms include - nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

It is thought that Swine flu is spread the same way as regular seasonal influenza - transmitted from person to person when germs enter the nose / throat. When someone who is infected coughs or sneezes, germs are released into the air and may be breathed in by others. Germs may also live on hard surfaces for a period of time, may then be picked up on hands and lead to infection when someone touches their mouth / nose.

In the northern hemisphere, the peak times for colds and flu are at the start of the school year, mid-winter and early spring.
