Travel Around Asia - Japan

From , former About.com Guide

With the Summer Olympic Games coming up in Beijing, China, TravelGator came up with the idea of trips to different parts of Asia. They looked at approximate airfares from Beijing, and included a few other pointers. Japan is the focus of this quick trip tip.

Airfares were found using the TravelGator flight search tool. Airfares are for one person return in coach.

According to TravelGator, "While most tourists head for the obvious destinations like Tokyo, Kyoto or Hiroshima, the better-informed travelers know how to get off the beaten path. Head to Okinawa for great hiking and sea canoeing on Iriomote island, or go diving with the manta rays on Ishigaki island."

Not far from Tokyo is Miyakejima island - a volcanic island that was evacuated a few years ago. TravelGator advises, "BUT you have to wear gas masks (available for rent) to go in the hot springs. Trust us, it adds to the experience."

Flights from Beijing to Tokyo roundtrip run about $1600 return around the time of the Olympics. A connection through to Okinawa will add approximately another $600.
