CheapTickets.com and the United Way have compiled a list of the year's top spring break volunteer destinations for the civic-minded traveler.
CheapTickets.com and United Way have joined forces to motivate younger travelers to vacation with a benevolent purpose. The focus is not just on spring break travel volunteering, but throughout the year as well. The focus included looking at the top five domestic destinations for voluntourism.
CheapTickets is playing its part and introduced a Spring Break Sale, offering $75-off vacation packages for the penny-pinched.
United Way's Top Five Spring Break Volunteer Destinations include:
- New Orleans - Habitat for Humanity invites students to rebuild homes.
- Southwest Louisiana - United Way's Alternative Spring Break program continues reconstruction efforts from Hurricane Rita.
- Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast - Continued rebuilding in Gulf Coast areas that were affected by Hurricane Katrina with a United Way Alternative Spring Break program.
- New York City - Appalachian State University of North Carolina and the YMCA offers a week in New York City mentoring inner-city youths.
- Washington, DC - Ohio State University has students who are headed for Washington this spring break, to prepare and deliver meals for those suffering from HIV/Aids, cancer and other life-changing illnesses.
