In and out of Corfu Airport

I usually like smaller airports. They are usually less chaotic, easier to manage, and you can often find someone to help you should you need to. This is not Corfu Airport.

So my first tip would be to avoid this airport if possible. There were no major flight delays or issues, but transport to this airport is unusually challenging. Leaving the airport is not as difficult, but taxis or organized tours are really the only options to get from this airport. If you decide instead to fly out of Athens airport (as I nearly needed to) you can catch one of the green Ktel bus routes that include taking you on the ferry, and then onwards to Athens for under 40 Euro, and approximately a ten hour trip. The bus leaves at roughly 10am and 1pm.

By taxi to old Corfu town, you are looking at a short cab ride and a 10 Euro fare. Because Corfu is a popular holiday destination during the summer months, you may want to approach one of the Thomson reps (UK company) and see if you can secure a seat on one of their buses if you happen to be going to one of the popular travel spots such as Sidari.

Inside Corfu Airport, there are several telephones, some which work, others which work intermittently. And if you are trying to get in touch with Olympic Airways while on Corfu, good luck. I went into Corfu town at several different times over the course of 4 days, and also tried calling them over a dozen times. No answer, never open, definitely make any changes while you are at home, or in Athens.

The counters for each of the airlines are not open except within a few hours of departure time, which is often the case in smaller airports. Just means that there is really no point arriving too early for your flight.

And coffee is downright expensive. The sort of expensive you get when you sit at an outdoor cafe in Paris or Rome. So sip slowly.
