By Arlene Fleming, About.com

Midwest Airlines has been the subject of takeover attempts for much of 2007. Midwest has been trying to stay the course alone. This smaller, domestic airline serving the continental U.S. has been cited as a standout in terms of customer service and satisfaction. Known for their cookies, will they be able to keep competitors out of their jar. Several airlines appear to be waiting in the wings for their chance to bid for Midwest.

According to a press release from Midwest Airlines, as of August 2 it had entered into confidentiality agreements with four interested parties. The agreements were established in order to look at strategic and financial alternatives that would increase value for shareholders. With the confidentiality agreements in place, Midwest is not commenting on speculations about a merger or takeover at this point in time.

Midwest Airlines has fared well in terms of customer satisfaction and has received labels such as "the best care in the air".

For several months, Midwest Airlines has been the target of a possible takeover by AirTran. As of August 2007, unsolicited attempts to takeover Midwest Airlines have not been successful.
